What a year 2018 was! We trotted the globe, developed new installations, took part in fantastic fellowships and made exciting plans for 2019 and beyond… Here’s just a few of the brilliant things Hellion Trace and founder Laura Kriefman got up to in the last 12 months:
- In January we installed Star Light Star Bright across Oxford- with 56,000 interactions.
- Throughout the year we performed Kicking the Mic all over the world and even performed live in the UK including International Women in Engineering day at SS Great Britain, headlining Random String Festival in Coventry and WITCiH at We The Curious
- We rebuilt and refreshed Press Play, for installations at the Children’s Media Conference in Sheffield and The Edge Gallery in Bath
- Laura attended Burning Man as part of the team working on Charles Gadeken’s kinetic robot sculpture Crown
- Continued as an active member of the Keychange.eu fellowship cohort, attending residencies at Tallinn Music Week, BIME Madrid, Airwaves Iceland, and gave talks at Way Out West in Gothenburg and MUTEK Montreal.
- Was the only international fellow chosen for the Mozilla XR residency in San Francisco to develop Laura’s XR capabilities
- Got chosen to represent the South West onto the talented Questlab cohort at Studio Wayne McGregor
- Started a PhD with 3d3 and the University of Plymouth
- Became part of Deeplab UK, creating a piece for York Mediale
There are lots of exciting things brewing for 2019, including developing new works and revisiting some old favourites. You’ll hear about them here first!
