Laura has just returned from the dusty Californian desert – yep you guessed it: she’s been working at Burning Man.
Laura spent a month working as part of the team to design and manufacture Charles Gadeken’s epic kinetic sculpture Crown. She started working with Charles while she was on her Mozilla residency in San Francisco, visiting him in the Box Shop to learn welding and other key skills for creating work of this type from scratch. Alongside learning new skills Laura brought her expertise in LED lighting (from her work for Greenpeace, and for Kicking the Mic) to the table by helping to program the LED light animations that illuminate the work across the Dusty Playa.
Take a look at the impressive sculpture in action below – an incredible sight in the middle of the barren desert!
